BUREAU OF CATECHISM AND YOUTH
It was by a decision of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece that this Educational Bureau was established in 1960, and is continuing to operate to this day.
It was the decision of the Central Board of Directors of the Apostolic Diakonia that it should operate on the basis of a two-year study course; This decision was aimed at better preparing future catechist teachers for their manifold task - beyond the encyclopedic knowledge that they would acquire - through the special learning and training opportunities program .
Lessons taught are: a) Dogmatics, b) Canonic Justice (Ecclesiology), c) Interpretation of the Scriptures, d) Ecclesiastic History, e) Religious Studies (Eastern religions and religious cults), f) Christianic confessions, g) Liturgical Study, h) Byzantine music - Traditional songs, i) Psychology of the Catechized Initiate, ι) Philosophical and Social trends, j) Pedagogy, k) Instruction, l) Youthful trends and tendencies.
Practical exercises will take place every fortnight, in the morning, at Youth Centers of the Holy Archdiocese and its neighboring holy Metropolises.
Depending on the program that is drafted, teaching will be undertaken by distinguished clergy, university teachers and professors. The detailed teaching program will be announced during the first ten days of October.
Applicants for the Training Course for Prospective Catechist teachers must present the following credentials: a) certificate of their studies (of secondary level education at least), b) be aged between 18-40 years and c) three photographs. Applications are accepted during weekdays, between 8:00 and 14:00 hrs., in the offices of the Apostolic Diakonia, 1 Iasiou Street, 3rd floor. |
